Hi everyone, I'm Etiene Ekpo-Utip, and I'll be your JCR Sports Rep for next year. Pembroke play a wide range of both men's and women's sports to a high level, with a great deal of success. For instance, in the last few years Pembroke has got double promotion in rugby, come third in rugby cuppers, won the rugby plate trophy, the women's rugby cup, the 5-aside football cup and the darts cup, as well as reaching the semi-final of women's basketball, being promoted in netball and having two of the best rowing crews on the river - our boats were ranked 2nd and 3rd in the Uni for men and women respectively, before an unfortunate performance in VIIIs last year.
Even if you don't think you play sports to a particularly high level, Pembroke still has a lot to offer - there are teams for all levels of ability, including 2nd and 3rd XI football teams, five rowing crews (including the somewhat less than serious "beer boat"!), as well as teams such as the league winning darts 2nd team, where the emphasis is more on fun, banter and the odd drink...
Outside of college the University offers centrally over 75 sports, from ball games and athletics, to martial arts and swimming. Sport offers a fantastic opportunity to get to know people from all colleges, as well as the possibility of earning yourself a Blue or Half-Blue, of which Pembroke currently has an impressive amount. Pembroke has its own sports grounds situated about 10 minutes away from the College (by foot), consisting of two football pitches, a rugby pitch, two cricket nets, two grass tennis courts, three hard tennis/netball courts and a newly-renovated pavilion. Our boat house is similarly pretty close, and includes in it basic gym and bar facilities.
